El Obrero, La Boca.

Definitely the best place we ate in BA. In the middle of La Boca (the slightly dodgy port area) and absolutely full of snooty nosed diners, this place is incredibly delicious and incredibly affordable.

The only downside? Waiting to get in once you’ve caught a cab out there (don’t walk, you might not have a wallet by the time you get to the restaurant).

San Telmo, Buenos Aires.

We stayed in San Telmo for a week. By far the best bit was the weekend market but we also liked Beat Boutique on Peru, Didi Tattoo on Independencia, Coffee Town - the best coffee in Argentina and the gorgeous leather boots in windows throughout the suburb.

It’s like he’s floating on dogs…

I can’t say I’ve ever enjoyed walking through a cemetery as much as I enjoyed this one. God knows how much money has been wrapped up in this place, there are actual mini cathedrals for well off families. Evita is buried in one of the more modest graves.

Some are looking a bit worst for wear and have been smashed up, while others are obviously still tended by devoted family members (or by someone paid to do this for them).

Just watch out for the groundskeepers - they don’t mind giving you a bit of a fright for a giggle.

Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires.

Possibly the biggest tourist attraction in BA? They pump through 900 visitors through this place everyday (a tour every 15 minutes) and they don’t miss you on the ticket price.

Would have been more impressive if they had not been doing a lighting rehearsal while we were there (the dark photo is all we saw of the interior of the theatre) or if they had at least discounted the $25 a head ticket price.

When the theatre was built, they were very proud of the electric lighting, hence why all the bulbs are very obvious and it sort of looks like a christmas tree.

Floralis Generica, Buenos Aires.
It is meant to open and close with the sun through hydraulic effort, but it seemed not to be interested in closing while we were there.
